Student Profile

Laura Elliott

Cohort#2 CP3 CDT Student

Laura spent the last five years at Imperial College London, studying for an integrated Masters in Chemistry. During this time she undertook an industrial placement at Schlumberger Gould Research in Cambridge. During her placement year Laura had the opportunity to learn many new skills outside Chemistry, with more focus on engineering solutions in the R&D department. Laura spent her time working on various wellbore strengthening, lost circulation and fluid mechanics problems, alongside particle size analysis. She also had the chance to design flow loop equipment and 3D print parts. LAura was awarded the rectors scholarship fund in 2010, for the duration of her chemistry degree. For her integrated masters project Laura worked in the Edel (Bio) Sensing & Analytical group, where she recently published papers on the self-assembly and applications of ultraconcentrated nanoparticle solutions. During her masters year Laura gained knowledge in the areas of self-assembly of gold nanoparticles into spherical clusters and their use in surfaced enhanced Raman spectroscopy. Laura joined CP3 to gain an understanding in the formulations of active particulates within the pharmaceutical and FMCGs industries, and is looking forward to working in this multidisciplinary area and the problem based learning the course offers. Outside of academic studies Laura plays the flute, and is also a keen netball player and runner.
