Biography

Svetlana graduated from the University of Salford with a Bachelor’s in Medicinal Chemistry. For her undergraduate project she was assigned the task to set-up a new method for capturing and detection of free-radical trapping agents. To achieve this, various techniques were successfully investigated, including Headspace Sampling, GC-MS, FTIR spectroscopy, etc.

PhD: Understanding auto-agglomeration in pharmaceutical materials

This project will investigate the root cause of auto-granulation and ultimately be able to produce a simple test to permit predictive capability/model of the process to ensure sufficient measures are in place to avoid or manage their formation.
This work fits in with a greater emphasis on the physical properties of materials and will help provide better understanding of “right particles” for formulation.
Different processing properties of batches of materials from different suppliers have been seen on a number of projects.
If the causative effects of auto-granulation are understood the benefits will be seen almost immediately and will add suitable tests to the materials science “armoury” for testing of materials.

Masters research project in year 1 of CDT:

  • ‘Preparation of Temperature Responsive Polymer Particles’ with Dr Nick Warren, Chemical & Process Engineering
